Job Description
Commercial Strategy analysts may work in one of several departments including: Cargo Revenue Management, Cargo Sales Planning, Cargo Strategy, Customer Loyalty & Insights, and Sales Planning and Analysis. The Analyst will be responsible for a full range of analytical projects involving quantitative and qualitative analysis such as pricing and yield/inventory management decisions for domestic and international markets, merchandising strategy for new products, and short-term and long-term route planning decisions. The Analyst will also be responsible for developing recommendations, providing visibility to key risks, and issues, and communicating with senior management.
The Commercial Strategy groups serve as an MBA entry point that provides insight into the dynamic nature of competing in the airline industry - MBAs are expected to play a leadership role at American.
Key Responsibilities:
Join a dynamic, energetic, creative team in one of American Airline’s Commercial Stratey groups. Lead projects from conception to completion: assess the competitive environment, conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis, develop and present recommendations to senior management.
Typical work assignments include managing and/or consulting on strategic endeavors:
  • Develop, present and implement strategies to address marketplace competition, changes in customer preference and improvements in technology, marketing tools and new media
  • Formulate new pricing, product and E-commerce initiatives
  • Utilize CRM data and customer research to understand trends and opportunities; leverage knowledge to drive revenue, increase yield, improve market share and enhance customer loyalty
  • Structure, negotiate and implement sales and marketing programs, vendor agreements, distribution relationships and partner agreements
  • Develop competitive market assessments, business plans and both strategic and tactical marketing, yield and pricing programs to support new and existing routes
  • Create and execute public promotions, targeted marketing campaigns and online advertising
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Able to think creatively and strategically with an aptitude for analysis and problem solving
  • Proficient at recognizing and prioritizing opportunities as well as managing multiple projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a passion for delivering results
  • Practical experience in accessing and manipulating data
  • Operate within a team environment, across departments and with all levels of management
  • Adept at motivating and developing others
  • PC/Microsoft Office experience is essential
  • Previous work experience in business, technical or related fields
  • MBA equivalent required

Cargo Revenue Management

Cargo Revenue Management is responsible for developing capacity and demand forecasts, pricing programs, traffic mix optimization models, and global strategic initiatives to maximize revenue and earnings for the Cargo division.

Cargo Sales Planning

Cargo Sales Planning plays an integral role in developing Sales goals, customer strategies, and performance analytics that help to achieve and exceed the division’s annual revenue plan..

 

Cargo Strategy

Cargo Strategy is responsible for defining and driving the overall vision for AA’s Cargo business.  The team focuses on Cargo’s product, network and partnership portfolio and marketing strategy, and ensures the direction has a solid foundation on industry data/analysis and business intelligence.

 

Customer Loyalty and Insights

CL&I marketing analysts are responsible for a full range of analytical marketing projects that have direct impact on our relationship with the customer. CL&I is responsible for designing and managing the AAdvantage® program, the world’s first and largest frequent flyer program, as well as analyzing customer data in order to provide rich customer insights for the larger organization.
